"For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith." -- 1 John 5:4
You can't overcome without getting over something. By its definition, overcoming means to get over some sort of obstacle. God has promised that we can get over anything in this world through our faith in him. Faith that God is all good, even when our circumstances are all bad.
Here's the truth about getting hurt. When people hurt you, it isn't personal. It isn't about you. You never even crossed their minds. They were only thinking of themselves. "How can I advance? How can I look cool? How can I have fun?" Your pain was just the by-product of their selfish ambition.
Buddha taught that holding a grudge is like a man who grabs a hot coal with the intention of hurling at his enemy. The one holding the burning coal is the only one who gets hurt.
How do we overcome our circumstances? We let go of the hot coal. We must get over in order to come over. That's how we overcome!
