Refuse to Dread. Live in the Moment.

Dread will ruin a perfectly good life. Refuse to let that happen to you.

Dread is the feeling of disliking something in the future. Dread is a waste of energy. To dwell on something that may or may not happen in the future prevents you from living in the present moment where you could experience joy instead.

Dread is a fear based emotion. "Perfect love casts out fear." 1 Therefore, the only way to get rid of dread is to replace it with love.

For example, people dread going to the grocery store because they don't want to have to find a parking space and then stand in line. Why not just accept the moment! You know what I do? I get dressed up to go the grocery store. I assume I'm going to see someone I know or someone I can encourage or minister to or just give a smile to. That way, I'm ready and in the moment!

I enjoy the drive to the store. I don't allow myself to be in a hurry or competitive with the other cars. Finally, I look for a parking space, but don't mind if I have to park far away. It gives me an opportunity to be thankful that I'm healthy enough make the distance to the door. Going to the grocery store is just one example. Dread manifests itself in innumerable ways throughout our lives.

People dread going to work. They dread the holidays. They dread getting older.

Mother Teresa said, "Do small things with great love." If you are able to change your perspective, you can avoid the dread which steals you from the joy of the moment.
